Who IS Mighty Mouth??
Nicole Hutchinson is a Certified Practicing Speech Pathologist, qualified and registered according to Speech Pathology Australia’s guidelines. Nicole has special interests in orofacial myology (orofacial myofunctional disorders), speech, language, literacy, hearing impairment (AUSLAN) and stuttering.
Some of her friends tell her she talks TOO much, but those who know her put up with it because they know it's hard for her to contain her exuberant love and detailed fascination for what she does as a Speech Pathologist.
The Past...
Nicole wasn't always a speech pathologist. In fact she used to talk a lot about wanting to find a bigger and greater contribution to her community rather than her IT job was allowing. An expert in solving other peoples’ corporate IT issues she used these detective skills for herself after watching some children at her daughter's school speaking in sign language she realised the importance of being able to communicate, no matter how. These kids inspired her and she realised that Speech Pathology was her new buzz. It made sense because she she realised that you don't need to talk to communicate... she's even now trained in Sign Language (Auslan cert 3).
Luckily as she researched deeper her drive grew and grew. It had to because Nicole needed this drive and a bucket load of determination to go back to Uni and retrain. Graduating from Latrobe University in 2012 with a Bachelor of Health Sciences and a Masters of Speech Pathology to add to her existing Bachelor of Science (1993), Nicole set forth to conquer the world and help everyone once again become Mighty in speech!
The Diagnosis that Changed Everything...
About this same time she began to discover a few alarming things about her own health, namely that her mouth was open for breathing and snoring! In fact, Nicole was diagnosed as having sleep apnoea.
Rather than let that get her down Nicole set about once again with gusto... exploring what that meant for her and others, where she could go for help, and if her training as a Speech Pathologist had a place in all this. Eventually she discovered incredible collaborations that were going on between dentists, speech pathologists, dental hygienists, sleep physicians, ear nose and throat surgeons and manual therapy practitioners. This culminated in her discovering the very thing that would help her to rebuild her own Mighty Mouth... using an Orofacial Myofunctional Program
And now Introducing Mighty Mouth...
Fast forward to the present day and Nicole is still hard at it. Teaching her clients' mouths to be Mighty using a mixture of Speech Pathology and Orofacial Myology to meet their goals and expectations.
She has now set up Mighty Mouth SP to create a unique and empowering brand, suited to her style and fun to be around. Serious about her work but not taking herself too seriously, Nicole is suited to those looking for a dedicated, high energy, lateral thinking Speech Pathologist.
Nicole dedicates her personal time to meet with industry experts, networking with other professionals, discussing cases and attending courses to learn more and more.
She continues to work on her own sleep apnea with her Mighty Mouth orofacial myofunctional program supported by other health professionals. She has a MIGHTY and audacious goal to reduce her apnoeas to a normal level and to achieve a CPAP free life.
